2009 Dodge Challenger - Feature Highlights
After 35 years, a legend returns...
Last seen on Dodge's 1974 'E' body, "Challenger" is back in its roll as a up market refined 'pony' coupe. More sophisticated GT than wild muscle, the latest rendition doesn't disappoint. Available in three trim levels, choose from comfort, luxury or sporting appointments to suit your taste. Drive trains start with a smooth, powerful and thoroughly modern V6 or choose from one of two optional OHV V8s proudly carrying on the legendary HEMI® lineage. Historically renowned for its transmissions, Dodge offers Challenger with a choice of silky smooth five speed automatic or sporty 6 speed manual.
While HEMI® engined R/T and SRT8 models hog the limelight, the energetic SE V6 should not be overlooked! It is scheduled to be the recipient of two versions of Chrysler's new Pentastar (nee Phoenix) V6 - an engine with class leading efficiency, power and features. And will Challenger become a darling of the aftermarket tuner specialists? (see page 5 for more details.)

High Performance Brakes
Challenger's standard four-wheel disc system brings substantial braking power controlled by anti-lock braking coupled with brake assist. In emergency braking situations, they help maintain steering control and provide shorter braking distances.
Challenger STR8® utilises high-performance Brembo® aluminum calipers with vented and slotted rotors; 360mm diameter x 32mm front + 350mm diameter x 28mm rear.

- Low drag calipers mean reduced rolling resistance and better fuel economy.
- Four pistons provide even clamping performance.
- 0 to 100mph to 0 in just 17 seconds.
- 60mph to 0 in 110 feet.
AutoStick® Automatic or Manual
With the introduction of the SE Rallye, the five speed "AutoStick®" automatic becomes the standard transmission for all Challengers. Allowing manual sequential selection of the gears with a simple tap of the shifter to the left or right, AutoStick® gives the driver enhanced transmission control for spirited driving. For that final classic look, choose the MOPAR® "T-bar" handle to top off your shifter.
For V8 models (R/T and SRT8) Tremec's acclaimed TR6060 6 speed manual transmission is an extra-cost option which is coupled with Hill Start Assist, a dual disc clutch and a pistol grip shifter to enhance your command of the road.

SLA Front Suspension
Since General Motors and Hudson fist intoduced Independent - "Knee-Action" - Front Suspension on their 1934 model year cars, the SLA (Short Long Arm) configuration has proved to be the staple for big luxury and sporting cars. Challenger's LX platform utilises long knuckle style wheel hubs and individual lower links to resolve the complex and conflicting demands of ideal steering and suspension geometries. The benefits are many, inluding;
- Light yet communicative and direct steering which filters out road shock.
- Long suspension travel for smoother progress over rough pavement
- Directional stability under extremes of suspension travel
- Elimination of road surface induced bump steer
EVIC - The Ultimate Performance Accessory
Challenger's "Electronic Vehicle Informtion Center" Provides all the information you would expect from a traditional trip computer, such as average MPG; service intervals; distance-to-empty and so-on.
But EVIC adds another twist - "Performance Pages" (standard on SRT8, available on R/T). At the touch of a button you can check all your Challenger's vital performance stats!

Safety - Multiple Advanced Airbags
Equipped with advanced multistage driver and front passenger airbags and side curtain airbags as standard, the Dodge Challenger has earned the US Federal Government's highest frontal and side crash protection rating - 5 stars.
Safety - Designed-in Structural Integrity
Extended sill reinforcements and cross beams in the rear seat area and doors help to absorb energy in the event of an impact. Challenger's steering column is also designed to absorb energy and lessen the potential effects of an impact, while the B-pillar contributes to structural rigidity and benefits roll-over protection.
Interior Space, Your Flexible Friend!
If a best-in-class 16.2 cubic feet (459 litres) of trunk capacity isn't enough space for your cargo needs, then Challenger offers the flexibility you need.
A split 60/40 rear seat allows the option of carrying three, two, one or no rear seat passengers with varying extra cargo space up to a maximum of 48.5 cubic feet! (1,373 litres)

Independent Rear Suspension
The compound multi-link rear suspension ensures full tyre tread contact with the road surface during even the most extreme driving conditions. Coupled with carefully calibrated spring and damper rates, electronic traction control, ABS and brake force distribution with effort assistance, this independent rear axle system gives a superb combination of ride and handling charcteristics, inspiring driver confidence in any situation.
